College Women’s Club of Houston was formed in 1915 by college educated women who were looking to connect with other women of higher education in the city. The group held social and educational activities. Additionally, they offered college loans to young women seeking an advanced education. In those days, college educated women were rare, so this was cutting edge.
The scholarship fund is a 501 (c) 3 organization. Over the last century, the Club has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school senior girls in the Houston area. Members submit candidates for scholarships.
